Primary Teas

BP1

BP1 (Broken Pekoe 1)

Broken Pekoe 1, which is a grade of black tea, specifically referring to the largest particle size of broken tea leaves produced through the CTC (Cut, Tear, Curl) method, resulting in a slightly lighter body with still noticeable flavor characteristics; it’s considered a mid-range quality tea often sourced from Kenya and other East African regions

PF1

PF1 (Pekoe Fannings 1)

Pekoe Fanning 1(PF1)-Forms the bulk of the production about 58-60% and made up of black grainy particles slightly smaller than the BP1.

PD

PD (Pekoe Dust)

Pekoe Dust (PD)-Forms 10-12% of the production, often black and finer than the PF1 and has thick liquors and aroma.

Dust 1

DUST

Dust tea is powdery with Course touch though not as black.

It’s made from the smallest remnants of tea leaves created during the sorting and crushing processes. Dust tea is often used in tea bags because of its strong flavor and color.

FNGS (Fannings)

FNGS. Fanning’s broken leaves, slightly larger than dust. FNGS 1. Fanning’s broken leaves, slightly larger than FNGS. PFNGS.

BMFS

BMFS (Broken Mixed Fannings)

BMF stands for Broken Mixed Fannings, a grade of tea that’s mainly made of fibrous matter with a small amount of black tea. BMF is a key part of the tea industry because it’s a cost-effective raw material for instant tea production.

PF’S

PF’S (Pekoe Fannings)

Mixed leaf with black tea which has some fibre. Pekoe Fanning (PFs)-Forms the bulk of the production about 58-60% and made up of black grainy particles slightly smaller than the BP1.

BP

BP (Broken Pekoe)

Broken Pekoe 1(BP1)-Forms about 12-14% of the total production and has the largest size particles. Liquors are light in colour but have an encouraging flavouring characteristic.

OP1

OP1 (Orange Pekoe 1)

The grade is known for its long wiry and well twisted leaves.It has golden reddish liquor which offers an excellent cup with a malty taste (characteristic of high-grown Kenyan teas).The exquisite aroma makes it favourite among tea enthusiasts seeking the best Kenyan tea experience.For those who appreciate a nuanced, aromatic profile, this is the perfect choice to buy.

OPA

PF1 (Pekoe Fannings 1)

Consists of large, bold and slightly twisted leaves which are larger compared to OP and OP1.Its cup is fairly bright golden reddish liquor with a mild taste.Orange Pekoe A (OPA) is a type of Ceylon black tea with large, bold leaves that are slightly twisted.

P/PEK

P/PEK(Pekoe)

They bear a resemblance to black peppercorn.Offers a light golden reddish delicate liquor, making it visually appealing.Pekoe is more demanded for its attractive appearance than for its cup quality.

FOP

FOP (Flowery Orange Pekoe)

This is a high-quality grade of orthodox tea with an attractive leaf appearance characterized by long, semi-wiry leaves with visible tips.The cup has flavour with floral character, slightly darker liquor that is briskier and bright.

OP1

OP1 (Orange Pekoe 1)

White tea is a type of tea made from young leaves and buds of the camellia sinensis plant. It’s known for its delicate flavor and light processing.White tea contains polyphenols, which may help lower the risk of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is linked to chronic health conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Green tea is a type of tea made from the leaves and buds of the Camellia sinensis plant. It’s unoxidized, unlike black tea, which is rolled and oxidized.To get the most health benefits, you can try drinking three to five cups of green tea per day. However, if you’re taking blood pressure medications, you should drink green tea in moderation.

Purple

Purple tea originates in Kenya, and due to the presence of super-antioxidants called anthocyanins, the organically-grown purple tea leaves are actually purple!The leaves have anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer properties and reduce cholesterol, boost cognitive function and prevent colds and flus. And because of how this tea is produced, it has half the caffeine of green tea.
